Oh, dear. How neglectful I've been. Originally, I had intended to write a daily post, at least during the first week, of the diet. With school wrapping up, people coming and going from the house, and various other interests I pursue, I have not managed blogging the last couple of days. Here is a brief synopsis of how we are doing.
I have been much more successful over my own raw food intake than I have been with the family. I forgot to pack lunches, waking up as everyone leaves for the day, sending them off into the worlds of mostly cooked and unhealthy foods they inhabit. The children really, really like certain restaurant foods (chicken nuggets and french fries are among these) and I cave in. They are definitely eating more raw food than they were before. I have heard this discussed in terms of percentages, and they are probably hovering around 30% raw food in their diet.
Something that has been on my heart is the fact that I want to go on a raw food diet does not mean everyone else does. I am sort of forcing them into a new lifestyle, and I do not want them to have yet another thing to discuss with their therapists when they grow up. The raw diet seems extreme to most people in my circles. I think I need to check out raw food support groups in Atlanta.
This morning, I made a trip to the Vitamin Shoppe. They had a buy-one-get-one sale on their own brand. I purchased the super greens, flax oil and psyllium husk, as well as various raw treats. I also bought a cup to shake my greens on the go. I am definitely going back. They have may supplements that support the raw food diet, and because the price is good. Plus, my brother works for the company, so I feel good about supporting them.
I still feel really tired, but I think the appearance of my skin has already improved. It is amazing that what you put into the body affects you so quickly. I always thought of the cumulative effects of one's diet, but it is so wonderful to learn that we can improve our lives so quickly, simply by being more intentional. Here is a list of the raw foods I've been eating:
Sprouted quinoa tabbouleh
Mushroom pizza
Salad
Smoothies
Strawberrry Pie- this was my greatest success. Everyone in my family ate this and loved it! It's even a dish we could bring to parties.
Non-raw foods I've also been eating:
Sprouted bread
rice noodles
smoked salmon
At 5'1, I weigh 123 lbs. today. Unfortunately, I did not weigh myself before going raw.
